Texans Basketball goes 2-0 on the week

The South Plains College Texans basketball team played two games at home this past week against the Dallas College Northlake Blazers on Thursday and the Temple College Leopards on Saturday, winning both matchups.

The Texans beat Dallas College Northlake 88-71 and Temple College 96-88. With those two wins, SPC is now on a three-game win streak. In the win against Northlake, the Texans shot 49.1% overall and 42.1% from the three-point line, while holding them to 44.6% overall shooting and 26.3% from the three-point line.

They also bested the Blazers in rebounds, assists, points off turnovers, free throws made, free throw percentage, bench and secondchance points.

Sophomore Yohandry Ortiz was the Texans leading scorer with 25 points on 8/16 shooting, going 2/6 from three and 7/11 from the free throw line. He also had five rebounds and three assists.

In the win against Temple, it was much more strenuous as the Texans were bested in every category, but rebounds, free throws made, free throw percentage and turnovers.

The ultimate difference in the game would be the free throw discrepancy as SPC made 14 more free throws than the Leopards to come away with the win.

Redshirt sophomore Zion Pipkin stole the show with a game-high 32 points on 11/19 shooting, going a perfect 10/10 from the free throw line, adding six assists, three rebounds and a steal.

Sophomore Jaylen Colon had 13 points on 4/9 shooting, going 1/3 from three and 4/4 from the free throw line, adding six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Following the pair of wins, the Texans are 5-1 overall and now they get a brief Thanksgiving break before returning to action at home against Snow College on Dec. 4.
