Dr. Donald Heseman, superintendent of Levelland ISD, has officially finished his first semester here in Levelland.
Over the past six months Heseman has felt so much love and compassion from the community. Heseman is so excited as to where the school district is headed.
“I’m just so excited for the direction that we’re heading in right now,” said Heseman. “I mean there’s just so much magic happening in every one of our buildings. I’m so impressed with our staff. We have great teachers and we have great custodians.”
Heseman said he has worked in many districts that don’t compare to what he has experienced here in Levelland these past six months. He is determined to steer Levelland ISD in the right direction as best as he can.
“I think what stood out to me so far is how great our kids are,” said Heseman. “You can’t say that everywhere and I have to thank the parents for that.”
Heseman makes it a mission to stand outside of the schools and greet the students each morning.
“On Monday’s I’m at ABC, on Tuesday’s I’m at South, on Wednesday’s I’m at Capitol, on Thursdays at the middle school and Fridays at the high school,” said Heseman. “I’m just fist bumping kids in the morning and I’ve had board members do it with me. I don’t know how you could ever have a bad day when you start your day with a fist bump.”
Heseman said he is so impressed with the kids' manners as well and how welcoming they make him feel each day.
“I’ve been thanked constantly for being here by these kids. I’m so impressed with our kids and our community,” said Heseman.
Heseman’s family has settled down in this community and nothing has felt like home more than Levelland to him and his family. The support he has had from this community is more than he could ask for and strives everyday to make LISD the best it can be.
“I love it here, we’re finally home,” said Heseman.
