The Sundown Roughettes faced off against Mc-Camey in a Bi-District playoff basketball matchup at Grady High School this past Monday night, and the Roughettes secured a 41-36 victory to earn the Bi-District Championship.
McCamey came ready to play, taking a 28-26 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Roughettes would respond by winning the fourth 15-8 to advance in the postseason.
“First off, hats off to Mc-Camey; they played extremely well and fought to the end and made us earn every bit of that game,” Roughettes Head Basketball Coach Jared Neighbors said. “Just a great game that our girls finished well. We started well and ended well and were fortunate to get the win. The girls continue to find ways to win, and in the playoffs, that’s all we can ask for. I’m excited to keep going with this group.”
Standouts in the win included Avyian McGlasson with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, Kelbie Powell with eight points, eight rebounds, two assists and one block, Lilly Reaves with six points, six rebounds and two blocks, and Kaytlin Clausen with five points, nine rebounds and one assist.
Other Roughette stat lines included Camry Jourden with five points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, Kyndal Taggart with four points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and Kathryn Flores with two points, one rebound and one steal.
The win improves the Roughettes to 24-12 overall this season and advances them to the Area Round of the playoffs.
They’ll face Ozona at Colorado City High School over the weekend, who is 25-8 overall this season and finished runner-up in 2A District 7.
