Fire Department Report

March 9

8 p.m. – Fire department dispatched to the 400 block of Hicks Place regarding a fire under burners of stove. Upon arrival, crew found a 1’” x 1” pile of grease on stope under stove top upon raising the lid. Fire went out upon raising lid. Occupant advised to clean stove before using it again. Unite returned to station.

March 10

8:30 a.m. – Fire Department dispatched to the 1900 block of Houston St regarding the investigation of a large fire in the area. LPD reported there was a controlled burn in the area but had received multiple 911 calls. After making contact with individual doing burning, he advised they had equipment and well as water. After investigation, it was observed that fire was contained. Units returned to station.

March 11

7 a.m. – Fire Department dispatched to the 4900 block of Sunrise Lane regarding smoke in the area. s. Upon investigation it was determined to be an odor blowing in from counties north of the location. Units returned to station.

11 a.m. – Fire Department B-14 and T-19 dispatched to Gusher Road and FM 300 in Sundown regarding a grass fire. Upon arrival crew observed a fire burning and requested Sundown VFD be paged. B14 crew and Sundown crews extinguished the fire and contained it to about 30 acres. Both fire departments cleared the scene and returned to station.

March 13

11:45 a.m. – Fire Department B-14 and E-8 dispatched to the 1600 block of FM 300 regarding a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of FM 300 and Black Gold Road. LPD, Hockley Sheriff’s Office and Levelland EMS were also dispatched. LPD and HCSO requested traffic assistance with traffic control. Once vehicles were cleared off roadway, LFD was cleared and returned to station.

3:30 p.m. – Fire Department E-7 and B-14 dispatched to the 3200 block of Quail Road in Smyer regarding a structure and grass fire. Smyer, Ropesville VFD were paged, but did not initially respond. Wolfforth FD was also requested. E-7 arrived at scene first and was eventually joined by fire departments. Ropesville VFD began working on structure fire and grass fire, Upon arrival Smyer and Wolfforth began a defensive attack on structure fire. Carlisle VFD arrive and set up water shuttle. LFD E-7 and B-14 assisted with water supply and fire extinguishment. Once fire was contained and scene cleared, all units returned to station.

9 p.m. – Fire Department B-14 dispatched to FM 303 and Hwy 114 regarding a possible gas leak, fog and rotten smell. Upon arrival , crew were unable to locate a gas leak nor conditions consistent with a gas leak. Scene was cleared and unit returned to station.

10:30 p.m. – Fire Department E-8 dispatched to 100 block of Elgin regarding an EMS assist with entry into a residence for a fall and lift assistance. Upon arrival, fire crew forced entry into residence to allow EMS to enter. EMS made contact with patient and released fire crew. Unit returned to station.

March 14

12:30 p.m. – Fire Department dispatched to Boston Road and Brazil Road regarding a grass fire. Upon arrival, crews located a small grass fire (0.03 acres) which was extinguished grass fire. Scene was cleared and units returned to station.

2:30 p.m. – Fire department dispatched to 2300 block of Hwy 385 for emergency of plane; dispatched canceled enroute.

March 15

3:06 a.m. – Fire Department dispatched to 1400 block of W. Jefferson regarding backyard fire. Upon arrival, crews investigated area to locate signs of fire, smoke or other hazards but were unable to locate any evidence of a fire. Units cleared the scene and returned to station.

11:30 p.m. – Fire Department E-8 and C-2 dispatched to 600 block of Ave D, 2330 regarding a fire inside residence., Fire department paged to the area of this location with a report of fire inside of the house. Fire crew were informed that the 911 call was unclear and that the possible address could be 303 Ave. D. LPD and HCSO also dispatched. After investigation of area for fire or smoke, none were found. Scene was cleared and units returned to station.

March 17

5:45 p.m. – Fire Department E-8 dispatched to 1900 block of S. College regarding fire alarm activation. Dispatch stated contact was made advising there was no fire, but a water overflow indication on alarm system. Upon arrival, no fire and no smoke was showing from building; no evacuations were in progress; and no emergency. Maintenance was on scene addressing problem. Scene was cleared and units returned to station.

March 19

11:15 a.m. – Fire Department dispatched to Crocket Circle regarding fire alarm and no contact with keyholder. Call was canceled enroute after alarm company called. Unit returned to station.

8 p.m. – Fire Department dispatched to 600 block of Hwy 114 regarding three vehicle accident. Upon arrival, no extrication was needed. Crew staged in parking lost and assisted EMS with one patient. After scene was cleared, units returned to station.

March 20

8:30 p.m. – Fire Department dispatched to 1000 block of Hwy 114 regarding a telephone pole contractor was inspecting pole and striking a 1-inch plastic line with a release of natural gas. Contractor isolated the meter which stopped the flow of gas. Atmos arrived on scene and determined the gas belonged to Spartan Transportation. Contractor was advised to reach out to Spartan. Atmos deemed the area safe of all hazards. Units returned to station.

Fire Department B-14 dispatched to FM 1490 and FM 597 in Littlefield regarding a grass fire. While enroute B-14 crew requested mutual aid from surrounding agencies. Upon arrival Levelland fire units found the nearest entry to the fire and began suppression efforts. Once other agencies arrived, they assisted with fire extinguishment. Texas Forest Service aerial support was contacted to assist. Once the fire was under control, units returned to station.

March 21

Fire Department T-9 dispatched to FM 1490 and FM 597 in Littlefield regarding assistant to the Forest Service to provide water support operations. T9 remained on scene until released by Forest Service. Unit returned to station.

2 p.m. – Fire Department E-8 dispatched to 100 block of Willow Wood regarding a child locked inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, crew met with LPD officer and parent who stated child was secured in car seat inside the vehicle with air conditioner on. Fire crew forced entry into vehicle with door unlock tool and child removed from vehicle. Scene was cleared and unit returned to station.

7:30 p.m. – Fire Department E-8, T-3, C-1 and foam/quint 13 dispatched to 2000 block of Mustang regarding a fully involved structure fire. LPD requested immediate mutual aid from Sundown and Smyer VFDs. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy black smoke from corner of residence and grass and fence area on fire. Initial attack crew stretched preconnect lines x 2 and a booster line and fire on outside was extinguished before making entry into residence through front door where they encountered high heat and smoke in the southeast bedroom. Ceiling was pulled down exposing fire in the attic above the bedroom. Fire crews extinguished fire and continued pulling ceiling for fire extension. Fire crew exited the residence one the fire was extinguished. Two positive pressure fans were placed at front door of residence. A second attack team made entry to check for any unfound fire extension. No further fire or hot spots were observed. A third entry team checked the attic for possible fire extension. Thermal cameras and gas monitors were used throughout the duration of overhaul, smoke, and heat removal. Scene was turned over to owners of residence and code compliance officer on scene. Scene was cleared and units returned to station.
