A Texas man is facing criminal charges after intentionally driving his Cybertruck into a lake.
According to authorities, the incident happened at Katie's Woods Park Boat Ramp in Grapevine. When the Grapevine Police Department arrived, they discovered a Tesla Cybertruck in the water near the shoreline.
The driver told authorities that he drove into the lake to test the truck's 'Wade Mode' feature while other passengers were in the vehicle. When activated, as per the Tesla Cybertruck Owner's Manual, the truck raises its air suspension to the maximum setting and pressurizes the high-voltage battery to keep water out and allow it to drive through bodies of water, such as rivers or creeks, but comes with several warnings that state that the maximum wade depth is approximately 32 in. (815 mm) measuring from the bottom of the tire.
After the driver told law enforcement that he steered his Cybertruck into the lake until the vehicle became disables and started taking on water, at which time, he and the passengers abandoned the vehicle .
The Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisted in removing the vehicle from the lake.
The driver was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle in a closed section of a park or lake, not having a valid boat registration, as well as on 'numerous' water safety equipment violations charges.
