The South Plains College board of regents met on Thursday to hear reports from academic, student affairs, institutional advancement, business, the vice president and president of the college.
The Fall enrollment numbers as of Aug. 13 are 8,118 duplicated and 10,526 unduplicated.
Enrollees at the Levelland campus stand at 2, 384; Lubbock Career & Technical Center, 290; Plainview, 46; Lubbock Downtown, 1,394; Dual Credit, 2,668; Internet (no dual credit) 3,163; and ITV (no dual credit), none.
Summer II enrollment figures showed 1,933 unduplicated, and 1979, duplicated.
SPC Student Health Clinic Fall Summary for 2025-2026 454 total patients, with 223 new, 187 established, 41 faculty and staff and three community members. Of the 454 patients, 151 were insured. Clinic charges were $85,682 and collections were $12,254.
Under the Texas Education Code (TEC), SPC is required to submit a report at least annually concerning reports received by employees for what is constituted to be sexual harassment, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking as defined by TEC. The summary data report for Quarter 3 included 13 total reports with two investigations, 11 with no findings or violations, one student disciplinary sanction and one still under investigation. There were no reports of employer failure to report incidents.
SPC policy changes under consideration for adoption and in order to align with and under management of The Texas Association of School Boards – College Division for Freedom from Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation include both a personnel and student section (local) and other protected characteristics (local), associated documents and procedures. Currently SPC is awaiting acceptance of the new policies by TASBCC and any recommendations it may have.
Concerning a formal adoption statement for the SPC emergency management program, it will focus on five phases of emergency management, documents, framework and incidents to remain consistent and coordinated with a multi-agency response during an event. For the Reunification Plan, SPC has established a safe, secure and coordinated process during an emergency event that include management of student and staff safety, tracking, identification and controlled release processes, management of parents and community members, coordination with all first responders and government entities, preservation of crime scenes or potential crime scenes, and effective, coordinated communication related to student privacy and procedures.
SPC utilizes training of employees in evacuation to properly assist all individuals, evacuation chairs or mobility devices, campus maps and procedures to account for individuals with access and functional needs.
Reunification will occur whenever possible on campus grounds or if needed be relocated to a pre-identified alternate location based on recommendations from law enforcement, first responders or college officials. A Unified Command will be established and control retained by law enforcement and first responders when needed.
The SPC property tax collection report showed current collections at $12,068,847, penalty and interest at $67,182. Delinquent collections are $129,310, with $47,978 penalty and interest.
The SPC board is considering a proposed tax rate and no-new revenue tax rate of .371082 per $100, with a voter approval tax rate of .406608 per $100.
Information on property tax insurance was presented, with Traveler’s presenting to two options and one with a wind/hail deductible. Travelers offered no discounts on other sections of the two policies.
SPC and host City Bank held the 2026 South Plains College Scholarship Scramble with 32 teams registered and 26 playing. Winners of Flight 1 were Hutch’s Oilfield and Supply and Flight 2, Voya Financial. Proceeds of $41,396 from the event went to SPC scholarships.
Other upcoming SPC events include Designer Bag Bingo on Aug. 29 at the Wallace Theater; the Scholarship Banquet and Distinguished Alumni Celebration as well as the Distinguished Alumni Presidential Reception on Nov. 5.
