The Hockley County Commissioners’ Court this past Monday met to discuss and take action on the 2027 budget and a tax increase, as well as hear proposals and requests from county entities.
After approving last week’s regular meeting minutes, along with all monthly bills and claims submitted to the court through Aug. 24, the Commissioners heard the Hockley County Juvenile Board’s annual certification request for its signature funds for fiscal year 2027.
The request was certified by County Judge Sharla Baldridge in her capacity as chairman of the Hockley County Juvenile Board and the budget was approved by the court.
The court heard public comments on the adoption of the 2027 budget and no comments were made. The 2027 budget was later approved.
Commissioners approved salaries, expenses, and allowances of all elected officials. Additionally, the 2027 safety incentive program for Hockley County full-time employees was approved for three total days.
The court also approved the Rider for Elsa Cavazos as captain jail administrator.
The court allowed time for public comments on the 2027 tax increase, with no comments forthcoming. They then took action to ratify the property tax increase that is reflected in the 2027 budget. The court approved a property tax increased of .69%, for maintenance and operations in last year’s tax rate.
