Maybe it’s been a hard day’s night, you’ve been dreaming of strawberry fields, or you want to hold someone’s hand. In any case, fans of the Fab Four are in for a night of favorite tunes when Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience comes to the Wallace Theater on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7: 30 p.m.
Created by brothers Billy, Matthew, and Ryan McGuigan, Yesterday and Today turns the traditional tribute-show format on its head, letting the audience choose the music. Before the performance, guests fill out request cards naming their best-loved Beatles song. Minutes before the show, requests are collected and used to determine the evening’s set list.
“The timeless music of The Beatles has become part of our collective memories, taking us back to a particular time, place, or person,” said Alycyn Keeling, executive director of the Wallace Theater. “That’s what makes Yesterday and Today such a special experience. The audience that evening gets to pick their favorites, the songs that mean something to them personally. We can’t wait to experience the show that our audiences help create.”
The McGuigan brothers’ connection to the music is deeply personal. Their father, Bill McGuigan, was an avid Beatles fan who shared his love of the band’s music with his sons as they grew up. That shared family connection eventually inspired the show.
