The Anton Bulldogs improved to 2-0, scoring seven total touchdowns, defeating the Loop Longhorns 54-28.
Scoring 50-plus points in their first two games, the Bulldogs offense is clicking on all cylinders due their diversity of players who can are capable of being dynamic said Anton’s head coach Tell Rutledge.
“We got so many offensive weapons that we can just spread the field,” Rutledge said, also crediting his senior quarterback Shooter Campos for “running the offesne and finding the open guy.”
En route to scoring 54 points, sophomore running back Isaiah Alafa and Campos provided balance to the offense, feeding off each other through the passing attack and running game. Alafa ran for 192 yards, seeking the end zone three times.
Campos was measured by his throwing attempts, with only 10 passes but finding three different wide receivers to score four touchdown passes.
It wasn’t just under center where Campos led his team; he also had an impact on defense, leading the team with 16 tackles and snagging two interceptions.
Winning their first games of the season and both being away games, coach Rutledege’s culture to be ready for any circumstance is what he credits for being victorious in wide margins on the road.
“We have pretty good focus on what we need to get done on field,” Rutledge said. “It doesn’t matter for us, the outside circumstances; who we’re playing, where we’re playing or anything like that.
This week will be a bye for the Bulldogs to tune up on some kinks to prepare themsleves to be suited for the rest of the season.
“There’s just some little fundamental details that we’ve got to iron out this week on defense,” Rutledge said. “Then offensively, we’ve got to take care of some ball security issues.”
The ‘Dogs will resume play verus Springlake- Earth at 8 p.m.,
Sept. 18 at Anton’s home field.
