Rushing for 214 yards, the Whiteface Antelopes cruise by the Valley Patriots, winning their home opener 7112.
Scoring five touchdowns on the ground, the ‘Lopes had four different rushers find the end zone: senior Jaxon Hodge, sophomore Brayden Hinostroza, senior Cesar Chavez, and senior Izaak Soliz.
Hodge found the end zone twice and averaged 18.0 yards per carry.
Not only having a nose for the end zone as a rusher, but Hodge was consistently around the ball on defense with 11 tackles as a linebacker.
Coach Jones attested to Hodge’s preparation and intelligence as a reason why he’s able to impact on both sides of the ball.
“He’s got a very high football IQ,” Jones said. “He studies the game plan, he had a good week of practice.”
On the pathway to 71 points, the passing attack with Soliz receiving snaps added three touchdowns through the air.
Starting the season 2-0 with a winning margin of 61.5, coach Jones is still looking for ways to challenge his team in practice.
“Something’s going wrong, instead of repeating the play, we like to just end it right there and kind of leave a bad taste in our mouth,” Jones said. “Tuesday was like that, ended sloppy and wednesday came back and kids had a great practice.”
The Lopes will continue their home stretch versus El Paso Leadership at 7:00 p.m., Sept. 10, looking to become 3-0.
