Ropes scores district win over Plains, 64-14

The Ropes Eagles kicked off District 2-2A play with a 64-14 win over the Plains Cowboys.

Wasting no time to make a statement, Ropes scored on their second offensive possession with running back Jaivyth Cruz taking a short pass for a long touchdown, starting the game 8-0 for Ropes. The Eagles then scored 57 unanswered points.

Ropes scored on all three phases of the game: on offense with four rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns, a pick-six on defense, and a kick return on special teams.

“Just trying to do the little things right,” Ropes’ Head Coach Beau Riker said. “ I thought our kids overall did a really good job.”

The rushing attack for the Eagles has been a constant for the Eagles with 1,871 yards this season, including 265 yards versus Plains. Running backs Kaden Riker and Zayden Pittman combined for three touchdowns and 130 yards, but the Eagles used five other rushers to gain the victory.

“We get to distribute the ball to a lot of different guys,” Riker said. “It’s great to get different people the ball; we have a lot of talented athletes.”

Ropes’ (6-0) overall (1-0) district next game will be on the road to go head-to-head versus Morton (0-6) overall (0-1) to continue their district play at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16.
