Letter to the Editor

Keeping Levelland Beautiful Is a Team Effort As Mayor of Levelland, I want to remind our community that keeping our city clean, safe, and beautiful is a shared responsibility. It takes residents, businesses, organizations, volunteers, and our city team working together.

One way property owners can help is by maintaining the area from their fence line into their half of the alleyway. City ordinances require residents to keep these areas free of trash, debris, and overgrown vegetation. Weeds and grass may not exceed 6 inches in height, and this requirement applies to lawns as well as adjacent public areas, including alleys and streets.

I also encourage residents to be mindful of what they place in alley trash containers. Cardboard takes up valuable space in these containers and should be recycled rather than thrown away whenever possible. The City of Levelland’s recycling trailer is available at City Hall beginning Friday at 4 p.m. and throughout the weekend. Residents can drop off cardboard, paper, and aluminum for recycling.

Keep Levelland Beautiful will host its Fall Sweep Community Cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. If you or your group would like to participate, please email specialevents@levelland. com to register.

Keeping Levelland beautiful doesn’t happen through one person or one organization. It happens when each of us does our part, whether by maintaining our property, recycling, picking up litter, or volunteering our time.

Thank you for taking pride in Levelland and helping make our community a place we are proud to call home.

Mayor Buxkemper City of Levelland
