April 27, 1935 - Sept. 3, 2022
Funeral services for Bobby Lewis Fred, 87, of Denver City, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 8, in the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Kyle Streun and Rev. Bob Webb officiating.
Interment will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. He passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, in Denver City.
Bobby was born April 27, 1935, in Levelland, to Louis and Zelma Fred. He graduated from Morton High School as the class Valedictorian. Bobby married Helen Williamson June 17, 1955, in Pettit. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University and received his masters from West Texas State University. He was a teacher for Denver City ISD where he taught English until his retirement. Bobby served his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 until 1962. Bobby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Denver City for 58 years and served faithfully alongside Helen in many capacities, including as an active deacon from 1978 until 2018. He will be greatly missed by the many people that he touched BOBBY LEWIS FRED as a teacher and as a person, along with the family and friends that loved him.
Helen was the love of his life for 68 years and he gave himself for her as Christ gave Himself for the church.
He loved his children as well as his extended family and sacrificed so much for them.
As Mr. Fred, he greatly enjoyed teaching and loved his students and believed in them more than they believed in themselves.
He especially had a heart for the students that many others in the school system and society had written off as beyond help.
Although he never pastored as a profession, he pastored so many in Denver City, students, fellow teachers, neighbors, church members, friends and family alike.
All who had the privilege of knowing him, were blessed by his encouragement and love.
He represented Christ everywhere he went and in all that he did. Almost every time you left his home, he would stretch out his hand and say “Let’s pray before you go.”
Saturday, September 3, 2022, was, no doubt, his greatest day as he entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and heard those precious words: “Well done good and faithful servant.”
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Troy Fred and Keith Fred; his three sisters, Jean Lindsey, Dell Fred and Gaylene Hooper.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Helen Fred of the home; three sons: Terry Fred and wife, Sherrie, of Reno, Nevada, Kenny Fred and wife, Donna, of Smithville and Mark Fred and wife, Karen, of Lubbock; daughter, Janet Fusco and husband, Robert, of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Louise Newton and Jaunell Morris, both of Levelland; one sister-in-law, Nadine Fred Taylor of Plano; along with eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two greatgreat- grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 7, from 5 p.m until 7 p.m. in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel of Denver City.
