The Levelland Loboette varsity volleyball team pushed their win streak to two in a row last weekend.
Coach Gibson spoke about her team being able to string together wins at home.
“I think we are playing well finally,” said Levelland Head Coach Whitney Gibson. “It feels like we are starting to put things together. We are playing as a team and with confidence.”
“The girls got tired of hearing the same speech from me, and tired of the roller coaster,” Gibson added. “They decided we can do this and we are going to do this, so let’s go work hard.
The Loboettes swept the Lubbock Titans at home Saturday in straight sets to earn their 14th win of the season. “I thought we looked good against Lubbock. It can be really hard to keep your intensity and focus when playing an opponent that is a bit weaker,” stated Gibson. “You can play to their level, so I thought the girls did a good job of not falling for the trap. Overall, it was a good game,” she continued. The Loboette offense got contributions from several different players. “Offensively, we looked really good. We got a lot of players involved. If I am not mistaken, I think we got kills from all of our front row players,” said the coach. “It is a huge boost to our offense when everyone contributes and not just one or two players.”
Alanna Worley led the way offensively with 17 kills. “It’s a big deal to see that from one of our seniors. Alanna strong play makes a difference for us on offense and she is the captain our team,” said Gibson. “When she leads the way, the girls feed off her energy. It is good to see a senior step up and take care of business.” “Tanaeasia Brackens has also really been playing well the last few games. She has become very consistent this season,” Gibson continued. Despite their lack of opportunities defensively coach Gibson said she was still please with her teams movement on defense. “I can be hard to explain our defensive accomplishments when we really did not play a lot of defense, but for what we did, I though we moved well. Our service received was good too. We adjusted well to what they were trying to do,” said Gibson. “Kadi Salinas spends the most time on the floor defensively,” Gibson added. “She has stepped into her role as libero and played well.” Levelland will try to carry their momentum and new confidence on the road with for matches against Seminole, Shallowater and Bushland. “These last couple of games have shown us what we are capable of doing when we play with confidence,” stated the coach.“We do not want to be that roller coaster team anymore. We want to be solid and play our game.” Levelland will concluded non-district play at home September, 20 against Trinity Christian. On September, 24, the Loboettes start their quest for a district title at home against Sweetwater. “We can very easily win district. We have seen some of our district opponents in tournaments and defeated a couple of them. The girls just have to get their minds right and decide they want to win a district championship,” concluded Gibson.
