The Smyer Bobcats took a tough road loss, 55-8 from the Clarendon Broncos, who are currently ranked no. 27 in UIL Class 2A-2 high school football last Friday. The Bobcats were able to rack up a respectable 294 yards offense, but five turnovers – two lost fumbles and three interceptions – kept Smyer out of the end-zone. The Broncos had 393 yards offense, with only 77 coming in the air.
In addition, they suffered one interception. Smyer’s only score came midway through the fourth quarter when Peyton Casillas hit Landon Polk for a two yard touchdown.
Casillas went to Polk again for the two-point conversion.
Casillas was 12-for-23 for 170 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Polk was 0-for-1 and Cody Armes was 1-for-2 for minus three yards. Preston Moore had 14 carries for 63 yards. Casillas had 13 carries for 43 yards. Cameron Gutierrez had 10 carries for 12 yards. Shawn Barrett had four carries for nine yards.
Polk had three catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Drew Overstreet had two catches for 59 yards.
Moore had two catches for 29 yards. Barrett had two catches for 13 yards. Gavin St. Clair and Armes each had a five yard catch. Gutierrez had two catches for minus three yards.
The Bobcats will be in Snyder on Friday to face the 2A-2 no. 22 Cross Plains Buffaloes. Game time is 7 p.m.
