The Levelland Fire Department has stayed busy throughout the month of September. Around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, the fire department received reports of smoke near County Road and Georgia. Units responded to the area and determined the cause of the smoke was a controlled fire that had been called in, contained and monitored. Around 11:05 a.m. September 24, the fire department dispatched units to 3640 Foster Road In reference to a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, the firemen found the vehicle engulfed with the department suppressing the fire. The units successfully extinguished the vehicle blaze and checked for any fire extension. The vehicle and scene were cleared. Around 10:50 a.m. September 24, the fire department received reports of a small fire in the alley at 412 Oak. Units on the scene located a small area smoldering. Water was used to extinguish the blaze and the area was deemed clear. Around 2:30 p.m. September 23, the fire department received a medical call at 3236 W Highway 114. Dispatch stated both EMS units were unavailable and requested the department to respond to the location. The fire crew contacted the family and patient, gathering information for EMS. The crew remained on scene after EMS arrived and assisted in moving the patient.
Around 9:50 p.m. September 21, the fire department received a call from an individual whose smoke detector was going off at 502 Double U Drive. Upon arrival, the scene was declared safe with no trace of a fire. The smoke detector was determined to be malfunctioning.
Around 10 a.m. September 20, units responded to 308 Rose Avenue in reference to a stove burner being left on and not being lit for approximately two hours. The department arrived to the home and used a gas monitor to test the air quality. The monitor deemed the air quality safe and the family was advised to go back into the home.
Around 8:16 p.m. September 19, the fire department responded to the area of 8th Street and Avenue Q in reference to a smoke smell in the area. Upon arrival, crew responding to the call were unable to locate any smoke and the area was cleared.
Around 11:05 p.m. September 16, the fire department responded to the 100 block of South College Avenue in reference to a multivehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 114 and Highway 385. Levelland EMS requested the presence of the fire department. EMS advised that all occupants of the vehicles refused treatment and transport by ambulance. The units on site assisted with traffic control before being released from the scene.
Around 4 p.m. September 15, units responded to 1690 FM 3261 in reference to a gas leak. Upon arrival, Atmos Energy was on scene. Fire crew on site stood bye until the leak was repaired.
Around 9:30 p.m. September 14, the fire department responded to 305 Magnolia Street in reference to assisting the Levelland Police Department locate an individual with a thermal imager. Upon arrival, the officers on scene no longer needed the thermal imager.
Around 8 a.m. September 14, the fire department received a call that an individual struck an electrical line with a mower. Fire crew responded to 1617 8th Street in reference to the situation. After investigation, it was determined that the electrical line was active, but no one was hurt. The fire crew stood by as Xcel handled the situation.
Around 11:50 a.m. September 13, units were dispatched to the intersection of FM 3261 and Bear Road in reference to detectable gas in the area as a line was leaking. Atmos was contacted and arrived to the location. Once the leak was repaired and the area was deemed safe, all units were cleared.
Around 3:50 p.m. September 6, units responded to the intersection of Avenue H and Austin Street in reference to a multi-vehicle wreck. After arriving to the scene, fire crew assisted EMS as all occupants of the vehicles were checked out.
Around 3 a.m. September 4, the police department received a call in reference to a pole on fire in the area of East Ellis and Alamo Road. Fire crews were dispatched and found a flare at the Rail Park with no other signs of a fire.
Around 3:50 p.m. September 3, the fire department received a call in reference to a tree falling due to high winds causing a power line to be pulled down at 1205 9th Street. Xcel was notified of the situation as units stayed on site until the area was cleared and determined there was no threat.
Around 8:30 p.m. September 1, the fire department received a call in reference to a gas smell in the 1200 block of 10th Street. The dispatcher stated the callers ID location was showed to be in the 1200 block of 10th Street. Units responded to the location of concern and checked the area for gas . There were no indications of gas in the area.
Around 6:30 p.m. September 1, the fire department was requested to respond to the 2000 block of Black Gold Road by the Levelland EMS in reference to a one-vehicle rollover. The rollover took place near the intersection of Black Gold Road and Cowboy Road. While enroute, the unit responding to the scene were advised the firemen were not needed by the EMS crew.
