New ownership keeps Studebaker dream

Studebakers Venue of Levelland has recently changed ownership, after four years with Jackie and Marcus Langohr, over to sisters, Lorie Marquez and Amanda Chapa. “We have lived in Levelland most of our lives and have always wanted to start a business together,” said Chapa. “After renting Studebaker Events for a graduation party we started talking to Mrs. Langohr, and that’s where the idea began of purchasing Studebaker Events. Fast forward three months later and here we are, the new owners!” Lorie and Amanda are two of five daughters of Alfredo and Athalia Marquez, all born and raised in Levelland and graduates of Levelland High School. Lorie, Class of ‘96; Erica, Class of ‘98; Monica, Class of ‘99; Amanda, Class of ‘02 and Brenda, Class of ‘03. “Our family has always been very close knit,” said Marquez. “We always get together every Sunday for family lunch or dinner. Our original family of seven is now grown to 21, including our husbands and all of our children. So we take turns hosting at each others houses, so we are used to hosting for large groups. That was a big reason we welcomed the idea of an event center.”

Marquez is Chief Appraiser at the Hockley County Appraisal District, president of the LHS Booster Club, secretary of the Wallace Theater Board, a Lion’s Club Member and she enjoys volunteering.

She is married to Eric Ramirez and they have two children, a daughter, Cailee Miller and a son Caleb Miller.

Chapa has worked as an office manager for both Tony’s Oilfield Services, Inc. and Canyon Tool Services, LLC for the past nine years. She recently departed Tony’s Oilfield Services to welcome her third child and at the same time, co-owner of Studebakers.

She is married to Sergio Chapa and they have two daughters, Sophia and Stassi Chapa, with a little brother on the way.

“Together with our husbands, we also purchased the lot behind Studebakers building,” said Chapa. “They have big plans to put in a BBQ patio hangout beginning next summer. I know they will do great things with their plans!”

“We will continue to host weddings, birthday parties, quinceneras, retirement parties, business luncheons and safety meetings at the venue,” said Marquez. “We both bring a unique set of skills that we hope to build on what Jackie and Mark Langohr have already accomplished. Under our leadership, we hope to bring something new and fresh to downtown, grow and develop our organization, strengthen our partnerships, and build new relationships in this new and exciting venture.”

“I am truly excited for these ladies,” said Jackie. “When Marc and I started thinking about selling and retiring, it’s like it all fell right into place. They just happen to have rented the venue for a party and we began sharing about wanting to retire and the next thing we knew we were signing it over. I have complete confidence in Lorie and Amanda. I know they will make us proud.”

“It’s been a whirlwind but we are super excited and looking forward to beginning this new phase,” said Chapa. Give us a call and let us host your next event! We can’t wait to meet you!”

Studebaker Events Venue is located on the corner of Houston Street and Avenue H, downtown Levelland.
