The Levelland Chamber of Commerce recognized and celebrated their volunteers during the Annual Volunteer Luncheon Friday. The luncheon was held at South Plains College in Levelland in the Sundown Room. Chair of Board Ty Gregory welcomed everyone on attendance and gave introductions. Board Member Dane Dewbre gave the invocation before proceeding into the awards section of the luncheon. Kicking off the awards portion of the event, Board Member Donna Wheeler recognized the Ambassador of the Year Award. The award was given to Ambassador President Janie Mireles. “Ambassadors are a very busy group and it takes an organized and efficient leader in completing all these tasks,” said Wheeler. “We have that in our president and we are glad to recognize her.” As chair of the Marigold’s, Wheeler remained at the podium to recognize the Marigold of the Year. After giving a brief background over this years recipient, Wheeler announced that Christy Clevenger was the Marigold of the Year. After the announcement, Gregory returned to the podium and recognized the LEAP Member of the Year. As a part of the Levelland Emerging and Active Professionals, Gregory explained that the focus of the group is to have young professionals working together to make the community of Levelland a better place.
After an overview of the group, Gregory invited Kati Moody to the state as she was the LEAP Member of the Year.
Moody is also the chair of the group. Special Projects Manager with the chamber, Kelly Hancock presented the Keep Levelland Beautiful Award. Announcing Tammy Franklin as the recipient of the award Hancock spoke about Franklin’s achievements. “She is always excited and enthusiastic about keeping Levelland beautiful and she was one of the first to volunteer and recruit others for community clean-ups,” said Hancock.
President of the Chamber of Commerce Mary Siders, took the podium to announce the next two awards.
Those awards included the Oil Professional Award, Medical Professional Award and the Educational Professional Award.
Dusty Slaughter was announced as the Oilfield Professional of the Year.
Slaughter started his own company RepForce Equipment in 2017 and has continued to expand his company while being active in the Levelland community through several organizations.
Amy Brooke Barrett was the recipient of the Medical Professional of the Year Award.
Siders applauded the extensive career in the medical field along with the many organizations she has been a part of in the community.
Levelland ISD’s Heidi Blair was the recipient of the Educational Professional of the Year.
Blair’s dedication to education and helping the profession grow was highlighted during Siders speech.
Gregory returned to the podium to announce the Citizen of the Year award to Becky Currington.
Currington, a well known figure in the Levelland community has been a part of numerous boards and committees in effort to improve the quality of life in Levelland.
Gregory continued the event with the presentation of th Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Mara.
Mara’s continued success at advocating for successful businesses in the Levelland community was highlighted.
Gregory wrapped up the award ceremony with the presentation of th Business of the Year Award to AgTexas Farm Credit Services.
Gregory highlighted the continued involvement of the business in the Levelland community and thanked the business for their support.
