Levelland High School welcomed Robby and Sheridan Brooks of Groom, to share with freshmen students about suicide prevention and how one final decision should not be the only story you leave behind. The Brooks shared their message about their son, Whitt, who took his life in August of 2021. The Brooks family created “All Things Whitt,” which is an effort to spread awareness about mental illness. The Brooks provided a detailed look into the family that is left behind after a suicide and explained that it’s OK to not be OK. It’s important to stay because your life matters and to choose to keep going. There is always someone who cares and is willing to help when we get down, reach out to a teacher, counselor or a friend or call the phone number the Brooks provided each student. LHS Counselors Stacey Waddill and Susan Smith passed out packets for each student from the Brooks, that contained bracelets, stickers, note cards and other small things to remind students they are not alone.
