Main Street spreads cheer through holiday season

The City of Levelland’s Main Street program is staying busy as the holiday season begins, bringing enjoyable events and activities to the community. Coming off of this year’s Trunk or Treat event for Halloween, Main Street is in the process of getting everything set for Ladies Night Out, November 10, on the square. Main Street Manager Tania Moody explained that the event is one of the biggest shopping seasons for the downtown businesses. “We do personalized invitations to their customers as well as receive customer lists from them,” said Moody. “We revise the labels each year and we send out over 600 invitations to ladies. Additionally, we also leave some of the invitations with the merchants and then they use next week to invite people.” The event will feature doormen at every business that is open and streets will be closed around the square for safe travel.

For this year, there will be 19 businesses participating in the evening’s activities. A handful of those businesses are also assisting Main Street by sponsoring different areas of the event to help offset costs of rentals and the purchasing of red carpets.

For each boutique participating, there will be a red carpet, a wreath on their door, and decorations inside their store for the holiday season. Various boutiques will have snacks, possibly wine, cookies, punch.

“There will be a lot of different things going on,” said Moody. “We plan on having a few pop-up shops, various treats, wine and champagne. People want to get to all the stores and capitalize on all the goodies.”

Businesses participating in the fun-filled evening include: Atchison’s Jewelry & Gifts, Fitness Dynamic, K’s Glamour Square, Live Well Think Happiness – CBD & Boutique, Silverado Apparel & Home, 806 & Co. Clothing Company, Lou Dee’s Floral & Gifts, Malouf’s JM Western Wear, Mosaic Coffee Co., Our Stuff and their additional warehouse, The Stache, Studebaker Events Pop-Ups, Studio “K” Home Décor & Vintage Gifts, T&S Craft & Antique Mall, Wallace Theatre Pop-Ups and Your Shop.

Sponsoring the event alongside Main Street include: Danny Grant Agency, RepForce, Higginbothams and Macha Insurance.

For every $50 spent, customers will receive an entry to win a grand prize drawing of $250.

With Ladies Night Out drawing near, the Main Street program is also working on their Christmas on the Square event which will be themed a West Texas Christmas.

Focusing on the annual parade portion of the event, Moody hopes to see a wide variety of entrees including tractors and other floats centered around the west Texas atmosphere.

A grand prize of $500 dollars will be awarded to the winner of the youth float section. For the commercial section of the parade, there will be a traveling trophy and bragging rights for this years winner.

For this year’s parade route, the path will take a bit of a detour this year as they go through the SPC campus. Moody and the Main Street Program have partnered with the Student Life Program at the college who is headed by Joshua Meredith. Meredith and his group will be bringing a large number of Christmas themed inflatables to the square and spectators can expect the grinch to make a return.

The Main Street program is encouraging anyone who has the means to bring an unwrapped toy to the event for those who are falling on hard times.

“I want to hit that hard and encourage anyone who is able to spread a little Christmas cheer for someone who could use it,” explained Moody. “We will have a collection spot next to the Gazebo on the courthouse lawn for toys.”

Treats, goodies, warm drinks and a few food vendors will be available to the public during holiday activities.

Additionally, roads surrounding the square will also be closed for the public to walk safely from business to business.

“I love this time of the year,” said Moody. “We have had wonderful weather especially during Movies on the Square, so I am hoping for great weather for both future events. What gives me the most joy is seeing people smiling and laughing and seeing kids having a blast. It feels authentic.”

Moody has represented the Main Street program regularly during Levelland City Council meetings asking for road closures and planning for the safety of the community who attends the events put on by the program.
