The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Texas, Las Fidelis Study Club of Levelland, started its 76th year with an interesting line up of programs and activities. This civic organization was created in Levelland in 1946 and was federated, joining the GFWC and the Texas branch of GFWC, in1947.
TheGFWCandGFWCTexas have been in existence since the late 1800s and have been active in advocating for legislation for the betterment of society since that time period as well as engaging in charitable activities and efforts for the betterment of their communities.
Las Fidelis has been a part of these activities since its inception in1946.
Las Fidelis started this club year with its President’s Brunch held in the Cotton Room at South Plains College September 13.
The brunch was catered by SPC’s food service.
The club’s yearbooks were distributed and plans for the club year were discussed.
The club held a celebration party for its 76th “Birthday” of the organization. Club member Betsy Moreland hosted the party in her home with birthday cake and party favors.
Club member and President Tina O’Connor, of the Caprock District of which Las Fidelis is a member, gave a program on the history of GFWC and the GFWC Texas, and Las Fidelis.
The Caprock District Fall Board meeting was held October 1, at the Lubbock Women’s Club, with Caprock District President, Tina O’Connor, presiding.
Guest speakers were GFWC State President, Billie Williams of Liberty, Texas and the GFWC Texas President Elect, Barbara Harvey of Dallas.
Several members of Las Fidelis Club attended, along with GFWCclubmembersfromTahoka and Tulia.
Caprock District donated several bee hives to Heifer International to be sent to a family in need to sell honey to supplement their income.
“Bees, Protect the Pollinators” is GFWC President, Billie William’s official project.
For the October 11, meeting, club members took a Trolly Tour of the Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech University.
After the tour, the club had lunch at the Pecan Grill at the Overton Hotel.
