The Levelland Main Street in partner with the Marigolds and South Plains College Student Relations, are hosting a West Texas Festival of Lights Christmas on the Square to be held Thursday, December 1, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The event will kick-off at 6 p.m. at South Plains College as Dr. Satterwhite, president of SPC, and Miss Caprock, light the parade of trees on the west entrance of SPC on College Avenue.
Following the lighting of the trees, a Christmas parade will wind its way through the campus, down College Avenue, turn west onto Houston Street and on down to the square for the Festival of Lights. T h e Main Street West Texas Christmas Lighted parade, will boast floats from various businesses, schools, organizations, families and nonprofits.
“We can’t wait to see how a “West Texas Christmas” is celebrated all in lights,” said Main Street Manager Tania Moody. “The parade will make it’s way downtown and will make a stop at the gazebo to drop off the long awaited jolly man in the bright red suit, Santa Claus.”
Santa’s helpers and the Marigolds will greet children of all ages at the gazebo to assign each child with a colorful ticket to see Santa. Once a ticket is received, children can enjoy other festivities, while waiting for the color of the to light up at the gazebo.
Once the ticket color lights up, participants can take ticket and their place in line to see Santa.
Festival of Lights festivities North Pole Park, hosted by South Plains College students will include bounce houses, games and a soft kooshie family-friendly snowball fight located at the Snowball Crossing.
The LISD school choirs will be caroling at the following times: --6:45 p.m., LABC; --7:10 p.m., Capitol; --7:35 p.m., LIS; and --8:05 p.m., LMS and LHS. The North Pole Park will also include food trucks, coffee, cocoa, and downtown merchant’s store front windows decorated in the West Texas Festival of Lights Christmas theme.
“It’s rumored, we may get a visit from the Grinch and his friends, who will be performing for your entertainment,” said Moody. “Come on out, you never know who else you might see.”
For those who would like to donate an unwrapped toy for a Hockley County child in need, please do so at the drop-off location on the courthouse lawn.
Toys may also be donated at City before December 1.
