Panthers avenge loss to Silverton, 46-0

The Whitharral Panthers avenged a regular season loss to the Silverton Owls in convincing style with a 46-0 win in a 45-point rule shortened UIL Class 1A-2 Bi-District Playoff last Friday in Lockney.

The 45-point rule in six man football states that whenever one team is ahead by 45 points or more at half-time or after, the game is called.

The Panthers scored the last touchdown with 8:11 left in the third quarter.

Whitharral had 263 yard of offense, compared to 57 for Silverton. The Owls had the ball first, starting on their own sevenyard- line. They got no farther than their own 21 before the drive stalled.

The Owls turned over on downs at their own five-yard-line when Whitharral’s Cason Wischkaemper got the first of four tackles for loss.

Silverton’s defense was stiff, stopping Brent Robinson at the line of scrimmage twice, but Jeryn Ellerd found Ryan McDaniel open on third down for the score.

Jack Griffin’s kick was good for an 8-0 lead with 5:53 left in the first quarter.

Things never got any better for Silverton.

They found themselves pinned back on their own 14 on the next drive and managed to get out to their own 33-yard-line before being forced backwards.

On fourth down and 23, Victor Saenz intercepted the Owls for a Panther first down at the Silverton 39-yard-line.

Shamadrick Weaver’s touchdown on first down and 15 was called back for holding, but Weaver ran for 10 yards on the next play, then hit Ellerd open for a 16-0 lead with six seconds left in the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Whitharral.

Ellerd passed to Robinson for a 24-0 lead at 8:03. An interception from Griffin set up the next drive, which resulted in a 49-yard touchdown run from Weaver and a 32-0 lead with 5:46 left in the first half.

Another interception by Saenz set up the final touchdown of the first half, a six-yard run by Kaden Smith with 1:27 left in the half.

The Panthers took over on their 33 yard line after a Silverton kick to start the second half. Four plays later, Weaver scored on a 22 yard run for a 46-0 lead and the end of the game.

Ellerd went 5-for-6 for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Weaver was 1-for-1 for a 30 yard touchdown.

Weaver also had nine carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson had three carries for 23 yards.

Ellerd had a 30 yard touchdown catch. McDaniel had two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown. Robinson had a 26 yard touchdown catch.

Griffin had a four yard catch and Smith had a single two yard grab.

Wischkaemper had a big night on defense with 6 ½ tackles, four for loss. McDaniel had 4 ½ with two for loss.

Robinson and Smith had 1 ½ tackles each. Griffin had a single tackle for loss. Rayden Potter also had one tackle and Dawson Rodgers had an assist.
