SPC Board of Regents approve fall graduation

During the monthly meeting for the South Plains College Board of Regents Thursday, the board approved the move for fall and spring graduations, an emergency operation plan, and business reports.

For students graduating in December, they will have to wait until the spring for graduation.

SPC President Robin Satterwhite explained that can be a tough task when students are entering the workforce or moving on with their schooling.

The board unanimously approved the agenda item, but students graduating this December may not have the opportunity for a commencement ceremony until the spring due to timing.

As the year continues, the financial reports presented by Vice President of Business Affairs Teresa Green continue to stay on line with what she sees compared to last year at this time.

For the Emergency Operation Plan, the last one that can be referenced was in November of 2018.

In today’s climate regarding school safety Texas schools at all levels are taking iniciative, the Texas School Safety Center has released new guidelines for colleges and schools to adhere to.

The most notable changes being the laying out of the chain of command and how information can be relayed to the proper individuals when needed in time of high stress situations.

The plan outlines responsibilities and who is in control various situations.

A construction update on the new welding building expansion was given.

Pictures of the updates were included along with any adjustments or changes. Originally priced at $3.17 million, a new estimate places the cost closer to $3.03 million.
