The Morton high school Maiden girls’ basketball team took a 59-37 road loss from the Anton Lady Dawgs in UIL District 1A-7 high school basketball action last Tuesday.
Morton trailed 21-15 at the end of a spirited first quarter.
Anton pulled further ahead in the second quarter, taking a 3221 lead into half-time.
The third quarter score was 47-31.
Anton’s Takra Goree led all scorers with 22 points. Alyssa Mancias had 18. Andie Alonzo had 14. Aspyn Cooper had four and Addy Cooper had a single free-throw.
For Morton, Lali Navarette and Malory Alvarez had nine points each. Kayleigh Boggs had six. Clarissa Holland had five. Chloe Enriquez had four. Kaley Ornelas and Amberlyne Hernandez had two each.
On Tuesday, Morton was in Whitharral while Anton hosted Abernathy. and Morton will be in Whitharral for a 6:30 p.m. game.
The Morton Indians steadily pulled away from the Kress Kangaroos in a 63-44 road win during UIL high school boys’ basketball action last Tuesday. The only bright spot for the Kangaroos was Quavi Ellis, who scored 30 points to lead all scorers.
Morton led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter and 26-19 at half-time.
The Indians were ahead 4229 at the end of three quarters.
Alex Lopez had 27 points. A.J. Mendoza had 12 points. Anibal Casteneda had 11 points. Cade Lyon had five points. Vicente Montoya and Lane Lyon had three each. Juan Rincon had two.
The Indians were in Whitharral on Tuesday.
