The Sundown Roughettes hosted the Plains Cowgirls to open district play Tuesday night and took a 57-43 victory.
Allie McCormack led the 23 point first quarter scoring for Sundown with six points followed by Emma Holdman’s five. The Defense limited Plains to just 10 points in the quarter.
Ashlyn Lara added six of the Roughettes 12 second quarter points while they held the Cowgirls to six points and took a 35-16 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, Plains rallied, scoring 14 while only allowing the Roughettes to score 11 to end the third with Sundown leading 46-30.
The fourth was almost even as Plains scored 13 to Sundown’s 11 and the final score was Roughettes 57-43.
Shea Beadles was the Roughettes scoring leader with 12 points which included 3 threepointers. She was followed closely by McCormack with 10 points and Aria Hogan’s 9.
The Ropes Lady Eagles traveled to Sundown to take on the district rival Roughettes Friday night and left with a 50-37 victory.
Both teams played aggressive defense, but Sundown struggled most of the night with shots that were just a little off, while the Lady Eagles seemed unable to miss.
At the end of the first, the Lady Eagles led 18-6.
In the second, the Roughettes defense held Ropes to nine points, but only managed seven points against the Lady Eagle defense and Sundown trailed 27-13 at halftime.
In the third frame, Sundown managed another seven points, but the hot shooting Ropes squad added 15 to their tally and led 42-20.
The Roughettes finally found their stroke in the fourth and scored 17 points, while limiting the Lady Eagles to eight points, but it was too little too late and the Lady Eagles went back to Ropes with a 50-37 win.
Ropes’ Tatum Melton led all scorers with 25 and teammate Ava Grace Falls added 14.
For Sundown Allie McCormick had 14 followed by Natalie Urias with 11.
Ropes next opponent will be 0-9 Seagraves, while Sundown will host 0-12 Post.
