District play continued Friday for area schools

The Morton Maidens took down the visiting Cotton Center Lady Elks 47-38 last Friday in UIL district 7-1A high school girls’ basketball action.

Morton led 10-8 at the end of the first period, but stepped up their offense for a 23-12 lead at half-time.

The third quarter score was 39-22.

Cotton Center had a big fourth quarter rally, but it wasn’t big enough to overcome Morton’s lead.

Kayleigh Boggs had 16 points. Melony Alvarez had nine. Amberlyne Hernandez and Clarissa Holland had seven each.

Lali Navarette had four. Chloe Enriquez and Destiny Viscarra had two each.

The Maidens will be in Whiteface on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Lady Panther The Whitharral Lady Panthers fell 27-25 to the Seagraves Lady Eagles on Friday in a UIL non-district high school girls’ basketball game in Seagraves.

Whitharral trailed 6-4 at the end of the first period and 12-4 at half-time.

They bounced back in the third period, cutting the lead to 18-14.

They continued to battle in the fourth, but came up a basket short in the end.

Madi Chavez had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Avery McCain had seven points and four rebounds.

Tyler Parkinson had six points, three boards and an assist.

Elizabeth Reyna had two points and two rebounds.

Kalyn Bates had two rebounds and an assist.

The Lady Panthers will be in Meadow on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Antelopes

The Whiteface Antelopes held the Amherst Bulldogs to three points in the second quarter on their way to a 54-32 road win in UIL district 7-1A high school boys’ basketball last Friday.

The Antelopes led 18-15 after the first quarter, but took a commanding 29-18 lead into the half-time locker room.

The third period found Whiteface up big 40-25 at the buzzer.

Brighton Scoggins had 16 points. Jeremiah Rendon had 13. Jeremias Chavez and Noah Rector had eight each.

Ethan Kauffman had five points. Josh Whitehead and Joel Fortner had two apiece.

Whiteface hosts Morton on Friday for an 8 p.m. game.
