Roughettes double up district wins

The Roughettess overwhelmed the Seagraves Lady Eagle 61-26 in Sundown Tuesday night.

Sundown’s aggressive and opportunistic defense held the Seagraves squad scoreless in the first quarter, while feeding the offense which led to 15 points.

Emma Holdman and Kaydence Loftin had five each in the opening period to lead the Roughettes.

Seagraves rallied in the second, as both teams made four baskets, but the Lady Eagles turned Roughette fouls into three points from the line and Sundown took a 23-11 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Roughettes charged into the third quarter scoring 24 points, while holding the Lady Eagles to only two baskets and took a commanding 47-15 lead.

Holdman led the way with eight points including a pair of shots from behind the arc.

The Roughettes slowed the pace in the fourth scoring 14 points, while allowing 11 points to Seagraves as the relief players received extensive playing time and the Roughettes cruised to a 61-26 victory.

Holdman led the scoring with 13 points for the Roughettes, followed by Loftin and Natalie Urias with 12 each.

Sundown improved to 3-2 in district and 17-7 overall.

The Sundown Roughettes then traveled to Tahoka Friday night and handed the Lady Bulldogs a 56-41 loss in district play.

Sundown started fast with a 17 point first quarter with eight points from Allie McCormack and seven from Natalie Urias.

Defensively, the Roughettes only allowed 10 Tahoka points.

Roughette Shea Beadles took over scoring in the second period with 10 of Sundown’s 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

Sundown’s aggressive full court press defense held the Lady Bulldogs to seven points and the score was 31-17 at the half.

Tahoka rallied in the third and closed the gap to seven points, but the Roughettes responded and held a 43-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

McCormack led the Roughette scoring in the final period with six of Sundown’s 13 points as most of Sundown’s scoring came from the free-throw line.

The Roughette defense held the Lady Bulldogs to eight points and the Roughettes took home the victory 56-41.

The Roughettes traveled to Plains Friday to take on a 20-5 Cowgirls squad that is 3-3 in district play.
