The Sundown Roughnecks hosted Seagraves Tuesday night and handed them a 51-30 defeat.
Sundown took an early lead, outsourcing Seagraves 13-7 behind eight points from Watson Evans in the post and five from shooting guard Jaryn Flores.
In the second quarter, Noah Peralez hit a pair of long range baskets to lead the Roughneck scoring with eight points and Sundown outscored Seagraves 10-7 to increase the lead at halftime to 23-14.
The teams went back-andforth in the third and Sundown had a 14-12 advantage in the quarter. Evans added three hoops and Peralez a pair.
In the fourth, the Roughnecks added another 14 points, led by eight from Evans and four from Alex Bocanegra, while the defense held Seagraves to a pair of baskets.
Good team defensive play gave the offense plenty of opportunities in the game.
The Roughnecks improved to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in district play.
The Sundown Roughnecks continued district play on the road in Tahoka and lost 49-45 in a back-and-forth game The Roughnecks led 9-8 after the first quarter, as both defenses played havoc with offensive game plans forcing turnovers and contested shots.
The Bulldogs outscored the Roughnecks 15-13 in the second and a 23-22 lead at the half.
The Roughnecks fought back in the third, limiting the Bulldogs to seven points in the quarter, while adding 11 points to their score sheet and a 33-30 lead going into the final period.
In the fourth, the Roughnecks still held a four point lead with four minutes to go when they went cold on offense.
Sundown’s shots stopped falling in and Tahoka chipped away at the lead, eventually overtaking and out scoring the Roughnecks 19-12 in the period.
The Roughnecks lost 49-45 and dropped to 2-2 in district play.
Friday evening, the Roughnecks went on the road and took on a very strong 19-5 Plains Cowboys team.
