Extension service planning food manager training

Texas AgriLife Extension Agent Ashley Hanson has scheduled a two-day Food Managers Certification Training Program for Feb. 16 and 17.

She explains that all restaurants are required to have a certified food manager on site for all hours they are open. The training course will provide the training required for certification.

The training will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days at the Hockley County Extension Office at 1212 Houston Street. Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 10.

Cost is $125 per person. Included in the registration is the ANSI-CFP Accredited Certified Profession Food Manager exam and the “Food Safety: It’s Our Business” course book in English or Spanish.

Participants must being a photo ID to be able to take the exam.

During the course, participants will be introduced to understanding the major causes of foodborne illness, how to prevent them, increase food safety knowledge and how to improve relationships with health officials.

Topics to be covered include foodborne illnesses and how they are caused, food safety hazards, sanitation regulations and more.

Upon completion of the course and passing the certification exam, participants will have fulfilled the state requirements for Certified Food Manager status.
