Wallace Theater board sets wall signing date

The Wallace Theater board and staff are excited to invite the community to join them for a special event on Saturday, Feb. 4th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wallace Theater.

The Wallace is celebrating upcoming renovations with a “Wall Signing.”

With a long standing history, the Wallace holds a special place in the hearts and memories for so many in this community.

As the Wallace prepares to install heating, air conditioning, rebuild the stage, restore the historic murals and more, the walls are open for people to leave their mark.

“We want families and friends to come back into the Wallace after renovations and be able to point to the spot on the wall where they signed. The signatures will be covered with gypsum board and the historic murals will be repainted over that,” said Alycyn Keeling, Wallace Theater Executive Director. “Each time someone comes into the Wallace, we want them to have a special connection and know they were part of building this wonderful theater.”

Over the last month, over 75 people have been to Wallace concerts, students have attended field trips, and actors have been rehearsing for the next show.

“It is very inspiring to see the notes that people have left. Some notes relate to the memories individuals have had made at the Wallace,” said Keeling. “It was where they had their first date, met their spouse, or first had the opportunity to perform in a live musical or play. Some saw their favorite movie for the first time at the the Wallace. Others shared well wishes and blessings and hope for the future.”

For Keeling, these signatures show how important the Wallace is to the community and the impact it has had on many lives and families.”

The Wallace Theater opened its doors in 1928.

Since that time the walls have heard endless laughter, shared a few tears, and held countless memories.

In the late 1980’s The Wallace closed her doors for almost 30 years, but in 2015 she opened them again.

Thanks to the support and love from the community she is ready to come back to her full potential,” says Keeling.

The next phase of Wallace renovation work will begin on Feb. 6th and the board anticipates to undergo major work into 2024.

The Wallace will continue to host programming in spaces that are not undergoing work and will partner with other venues to host live theatrical performances, concerts and more until they can be back in the building.

“On behalf of The Wallace board and staff, thank you,” said Keeling. “Thank you to all of our donors, volunteers, and patrons who have made it possible for major renovation work to begin.”

The Wallace is over halfway to its fundraising goals for renovations.

Anyone can become a supporter by making a donation at individuals who come down.
