Ropes one game behind Roughettes for second

The Ropes Lady Eagles, ranked 22nd in UIL class 2A got a 43-31 win over the Tahoka Lady Bulldogs in district 5-2A high school girls’ basketball action last Friday.

Ropes led 10-2 in the first quarter and 24-7 at half-time.

The Lady Eagles were ahead 35-19 at the end of three quarters.

Campbell Latta had 12 points. Allie Wilson had 11. Tatum Melton had eight. Heather McNabb had seven. Ava Grace Falls had four and Bailey Turner had a free-throw.

The Lady Eagles will continue district play in Post on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

Eagles

The Ropes Eagles got a come from behind 62-60 road win over the Tahoka Bulldogs in UIL district 5-2A high school boys’ basketball action last Friday.

Ropes trailed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, but had cut the Tahoka lead to 21-20 at halftime.

The Bulldogs led 40-38 at the end of the third quarter.

Brady Bryan led all scorers with 23 points. Garrett Gilliam had 18. E.J. Mendez had eight. Nate Brooks had five. Darren Kizer had three points. Braxxin Partington had two. Brennan Bearden, Reese Williams and Kade Franklin had a free-throw each.

The Eagles will be in Post on Tuesday to continue district action at 7:30 p.m.

Bobcats

The Smyer Bobcats couldn’t recover from a flat fourth quarter on the way to a 57-36 road loss to the Hale Center Owls in UIL district 4-2A high school boys’ basketball action last Friday.

Smyer trailed 17-11 after one frame and 26-20 at half-time.

The third quarter was the clincher as the Owls jumped out to a 39-24 lead and never looked back.

Landon Polk had 10 points. Shawn Barrett had nine. Cameron Gutierrez had six. Brayden Wade had four. Jordan Bartlett, Drew Overstreet and Ethan Morris had two points each.

The Bobcats host Ralls on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Cats

The Smyer Lady Cats took a 71-40 road loss from the Hale Center Lady Owls in UIL district 4-2A high school girls’ basketball action last Friday.

Smyer trailed 13-7 at the end of the first period, 32-20 at halftime and 55-41 at the end of three quarters.

Rylee Riedel had 12 points. Mollie Norman had 11. Vanna Jourdan, Kaia Brandon and Dyamond Baker had four each. Ella Kirkland had three. Kristen Gonzales had two.

The Lady Cats will host Ralls on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
