The City of Levelland Parks Department has put together another sled hill activity for the community that went from Thursday to Saturday.
Parks Directory Dustin Reichelt explained that these events put together by the department are focused on providing a quality of life aspect that not only the community can enjoy, but individuals outside of the community can come experience when in Levelland.
“One of the first things that businesses ask when they come into the town is how is the quality of life,” said Reichelt. “Reinvesting into the quality of life in Levelland is not only make the town fun, but we are also generating more sales tax from the individuals who want to come to our town and spend their money at our different stores, restaurants, etc.”
Now in their third season putting together the sled hill, this is the second time this winter kids have been able to experience the snow and sledding.
For Reichelt, he feels that the quality of life aspect didn’t hit the lime light until the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“By the time the pandemic hit, more and more people realized how quality of life can be an investment in a town or city,” said Reichelt. “Ranging from the sled hill, playgrounds, fishing and disk golf at the city park is geared to providing a higher quality of life for the community.”
Providing an event such as the sled hill has seen a constant growth in participation during the winter.
Typically, Reichelt and his crew are looking at the weather to remain 28 degrees or colder to make the snow and remain around there or colder for the better part of 24 to 48 hours.
“We are having to mix in a little science and follow weather charts to pick and choose when we are able to get it done,” said Reichelt.
For those who are unfamiliar with the winter activity, all ages are welcome to participate in the various sled trails that are made by Reichelt and his crew.
Parks personnel are always monitoring the sled traffic and ensuring all participants are enjoying the activity safely.
The sled hill is help open for the duration of the snow remaining on the ground.
Reichelt encourages anyone who wants to monitor the hours of operation to follow the City of Levelland’s facebook page as ipdates are provided each day for the trails as well as if the sled hill is happening or now.
