Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.03 billion in local sales tax allocations for February, 9.3 percent more than in February 2022.
The allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2022 sales by businesses that report tax annually.
Levelland’s sales tax payment for February, which was received earlier this month was for $474,077.08. An increase of 18.41 percent over the $421,631.47 received in February.
Anton’s received $10,532.29 an increase of 12.43 percent over $8,894.20 received in February, 2022.
Ropesville’s payment was $12,502.61, an increase of 15.63 percent over $10,812.21 in February of last year.
Morton’s payment of $13,166.39 was a 8.75 percent increase compared to last year’s previous of $12,106.50 in the month of February. Whiteface’s payment of $3,964.85 was an increase of 24.45 percent over $3,160.32 in February of 2022. Sundown’s payment of $52,010.62 is a 40.17 percent increase compared to $37,103.47 in February of 2022.
Smyer’s payment for the month of February was $6,127.92.
Opdyke West’s payment of $526.41 which is a decrease of 10.46 percent compared to $587.91.
Anton, Levelland, Ropesville, Smyer and Sundown currently sit at a tax rater percentage of two percent.
Morton and Whiteface currently sit at 1.5 percent Opdyke West has a tax rate of one percent.
Texas imposes a 6.25 percent state sales and use tax on all retail sales, leases and rentals of most goods, as well as taxable services.
Local taxing jurisdictions (cities, counties, special purpose districts and transit authorities) can also impose up to two percent sales and use tax for a maximum combined rate of 8.25 percent.
