LEDC continues working along side Leading EDG

The Levelland Economic Development Corporation had their regular meeting in the noon hour on Thursday to cover some basic business as well as hear updates from various groups impacting their work.

First was Jay Warnick with South Plains College Continuing Education program. SPC has long been in talks with the LEDC to move their truck driving school to the rail park, and reduce their use of Reese Campus in Lubbock.

Jay stated that grants were still being pursued, and that estimates placed the projects around $2.6 Million.

This would include concrete driving paths as well as modular instructional buildings.

With the LEDC supporting financially as well as through the donation of land at the rail park, we can expect to see this cooperation come to fruition in the near future.

Taylor McAlpine also had an update from the Leading EDG, a group the LEDC contracts with for business mentorship for local small businesses.

McAlpine happily reported that since the last report he’s seen an increase of 8 clients, and re-engaged 2 previous clients.

Most of the clients serviced are either concepts or startups, so they are very early in their business journey, and McAlpine assists them in a variety of ways.

The most common topics discussed with these clients are Goal setting & Strategic Planning, Dealing with rising costs, and communication plans & sales programs.

So far McAlpine has assisted groups in consumer services, equipment sales & training, agritourism, and entertainment as he works to assist local entrepreneurs.
