Roughettes out duel Lady Eagles, 53-44

The Sundown Roughettes and the Ropes Lady Eagles met in Brownfield for a rematch in the split season series and Sundown left with a 53-44 Regional Quarterfinal win in a very physical

game.

Sundown got out front by six quickly on their way to a 13 point quarter led by Aria Hogan’s eight points in the paint.

Ropes answered and closed the gap with an 11 point effort with Ava Grace Falls leading the way.

The Lady Eagle defense slowed the Roughettes in the second, holding them to eight total points and taking the lead before Sundown rallied to tie the game at the half at 21-21.

Ropes came out hard after the break and had 10 points, four of those were free-throws from Roughette fouls as the intensity of play increased.

Sundown answered with their best scoring quarter of the game, 18 points in a balanced team effort including three free-throws and led 39-31 at the end of three quarters.

The fourth quarter was as both teams scored in small runs with neither gaining much advantage, and Roughettes held their lead as they out scored the Lady Eagle squad 14-13 and took the gold ball and the next step in the Regional Tournament.

The Roughettes next face a very good group from Panhandle that is 21-2 in the semifinal round of the playoffs.
