The Levelland Lobos are 4A Region 1 Bi-District Champions after defeating the Graham Steers, 61-38, in Anson Tuesday evening.
For Levelland Lobo Head Coach Parker Hicks and his loaded squad of seniors, this seasons mantra has been, “Cut The Net.”
With the goal of giving his seven seniors the opportunity to win a playoff game, cut the net, and bring back a post-season gold ball to the trophy case, the Lobos capitalized on the opportunity given and punched their ticket to the 4A Region 1 Area Championship in Childress against Witchita Falls Hirshi Friday night.
Prior to the match-up against the Steers, Coach Hicks knew his team had a chance to achieve their goal if the better version of the Lobos stepped onto the hardwood Tuesday evening.
Priding themselves on quality defensive outings, the Lobos went to work quickly holding the Steers to single digit quarters in the first and second.
Allowing only seven points in the first and nine in the second, the retained their lead from the beginning.
Scoring 13 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second, the Lobos led at the half, 27-16, with all the momentum firmly in their corner.
Coming out of the first half, Coach Hicks challenged his team to keep that first half momentum and continue to apply pressure to Graham.
Offensively, the Steers broke into the double-digits in the third quarter with 12 points and 10 points in the fourth.
However, the Lobos continued to hit their shots in the second half and continued to outscore the Steers with 19 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the fourth to cap off the victory.
Senior Taeshaun Jones led the Lobos scoring efforts with 24 points against the Steers.
Seniors Eryk Jones finished the game with eight points while Zameron Lecroy, Carson Boggs and Jerry Haile each scored seven.
Senior Konner Alexander wrapped up the night with four points, Sean Landrum had three and Ethan Campos sank two on the night.
“This is what we wanted to do from the beginning of the year and it feels good and feels refreshing to see everything you do all your hard work pay off,” said Coach Hicks. “We were happy to win Tuesday, but we’re onto bigger and better now.”
