The Whiteface Lady Lopes came away with several awards in UIL District 7-1A Girls’ High School Basketball after a 29-5
season.
In addition to being 29-5, the Lady Lopes won their fifth straight district title with an undefeated district record this season and were ranked 13 th in UIL Class 1A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
They are 52-1 in district over the last five years.
They finished the post season with wins over Wellman-Union (66-36) in the bi-district round, Lorenzo (61-29) in the area round and fourth ranked Sands (41-38 OT) in the regional quarterfinal round before falling 47-39 to no. 7 Nazareth in the regional semifinals.
Allison Martha, the only senior on the team, came away with District Most Valuable Player honors. Martha also accrued 1,500 career points this season.
Emma Ayers was Defensive Most Valuable Player.
Coach Gary Simmons was coach of the year.
Jaedyn Rector and Tymmyah Olenga made the All-District team, while Morgan Waggoner, Kylie Deavours, Anais Soliz and Ariana Soliz received honorable mention recognition.
Maidens
The Morton Maidens had four girls named to the UIL District 7-1A All-District High School Girls’ Basketball Team.
Melony Alvarez and Kayleigh Boggs both made the all-district team, while Chloe Enriquez and Lali Navarrette received honorable mention recognition.
Morton finished their district season at 5-5 and narrowly missed a playoff appearance when they fell to the Meadow Lady Broncos 58-36 in a fourth place seeding game in Sundown on Feb. 11.
Roughettes
After a Regional Tournament appearance, it is no surprise that District 5-AA had a number of Sundown Roughettes make the All-District Team.
Natalie Urias was Defensive Player of the Year.
Roughettes Aira Hogan, Emma Holdman and Allie McCormick were named to the All-District Team.
Kaydence Loftin was named to the All-Defensive Team. Shea Beadles, Karlee Riley and Ashlyn Lara were named as Honorable Mention.
