The 50th annual Cochran County Cancer Cake-A-Thon will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Cochran County Activity Building.
Proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. $732,595.56 has been raised through the Cake-A-Thon since the first auction in 1973.
Cheri Butler with the Cake-A-Thon explained that there will be a live radio auction from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and those listening and wanting to bid on a cake can call 806-266-5555.
Community members who want to donate a cake can contact Butler, Natalie Silhan, Angie Lewis or Shay Butler.
Butler explained those wanting to donate can meet one of the members mentioned above.
“Just bring it on over or call one of those four numbers on the flyer,” Butler said. “We can meet in Whiteface or if somebody is coming this way, we can pick it up. Call us and we will make arrangements and get it done.”
There will also be a silent auction at the event auctioning off non-edible items from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. A $10 unlimited taco salad lunch is also available at the Cake-A-Thon from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
“We’re doing a taco salad lunch this year,” Butler said. “It’s $10 a person and all you can eat.”
Butler expressed gratitude to the community and explained the event would not be possible without donations and community involvement.
“Just a huge thanks and gratitude for coming out every year and being there and supporting us,” Butler said. “It’s life changing. It’s just amazing for them to do so.”
