In celebration of Earth Day, Keep Levelland Beautiful scheduled multiple programs throughout Friday that involved the community.
Kicking off the fun, Levelland ISD’s and KLB member Cristal Isaacks read the book, HoneyBee to first graders at South Elementary which is about the cycle of life and the habitat in which honeybees live.
The students also made seed bombs for bee’s food to take home and plant.
KLB’s Kelly Hancock read the HoneyBee book to Levelland Christian Homeschool students at Bartlett Park at 3 p.m. along with making seed bombs for bee’s food to take home.
The City of Levelland Parks Department, Keep Levelland Beautiful and Noon Rotary planted trees at Kauffman Park to raise awareness of trees and the important role that they have in our environment.
The group explained that the purpose is to encourage local people to plant trees.
“As trees are an invaluable natural resource, they beautify our neighborhoods, provide a habitat for wildlife and even help to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions,” stated Hancock.
The Chamber of Commerce Marigolds organization planted marigold flowers at the Chamber of Commerce.
These cheerful flowers will bring beautiful colors and attract butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects along with beautifying Levelland.
Earth Day is held each year on April 22 to help protect the planet from things like pollution and deforestation.
The organization encourages taking part in activities like picking up litter and planting trees to make the world a happier, healthier place to live. Keep Levelland Beautiful mission is to inspire and empower Texans to keep our communities clean and beautiful through partnerships, education and action.
