The Ropes Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and held on for an 8-7 UIL District 4-2A High School Baseball home win over the Sundown Roughnecks last Saturday.
Both teams are in tight playoff races. The Eagles are in the running for a first place tie with New Home and Sundown is vying for a third-place finish with the Smyer Bobcats.
Mason Marmolejo took the win for Sundown, going five innings with four runs on five hits, 13 strikeouts and three walks.
Bode Franklin gave us two runs with two strikeouts and five walks. Hunter Torres got the save, allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks.
Jaxon Rodriguez got the loss for the Roughnecks. He allowed seven runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
Hunter Tindol closed for the Roughnecks, giving up a run on a hit with two strikeouts over one inning of relief.
For the Eagles, Marmolejo had a run and a hit. Garrett Gilliam had two runs and a hit. Logan Delgado had a run, a hit and an RBI.
Kade Franklin had a run, a hit and two RBIs. Torres had two runs, two hits and two RBIs.
Brady Bryan had a run and a hit.
Branson Beck had a hit and an RBI.
For the Roughnecks, Jaryn Flores had a run and a hit. Koy Torres had a run, a hit and an RBI.
Rodriguez had two runs, a hit and two RBIs.
Isaac Lopez had a run and a hit, as did Rian Rose. Rayden Flores scored one run.

Roughettes The Sundown Roughettes clinched third place in UIL District 3-2A High School Softball with a 5-1 win over the Sudan Nettes last Saturday.
Sundown led 4-0 after the first inning and answered Sudan’s only run in the top of the fourth with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Daniella Reyna got the win. She allowed nine hits, but only one run with four strikeouts and a walk over 5 2/3 innings. Camry Jourdan had two runs and a hit. Emry Jourdan had a run and a hit. Reyna had an RBI. A Lara had a run and two hits.
Ella McCormick had an RBI. Ericka Posadas had a hit. Araceli Ibarra had a hit and an RBI. Allie McCormick had a hit. The Roughettes start their playoff run Thursday in Lamesa against Forsan. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
