SMS Golf excels

Sundown Middle School Golf returned home from the district tournament held at Yoakum County Golf Course on Tuesday, May 2nd with individual gold and bronze medals.

Sundown also earned Gold and Silver team medals at the tournament.

Sundown Middle School Head Coach Kyle Igo took 10 boys and two girls to the District Golf Tournament.

Isaiah Igo shot a 33 to become the back-to-back district champion, while Brock Bufe followed strong with a 54 for the Bronze.

Together, they helped elevate the Sundown Blue Team to a district championship.

Sundown Blue consisted of Isaiah Igo (33), Brock Bufe (54), Rylan Carr (60), Riley Martin (65), and Tristan Wisdom (69).

The Sundown Red Team finished strong as a team in second place.

Sundown Red consisted of Jake Carranza (61), Gordon Mata (63), Athan Peralez (66), Clay Holdman (69) and JC Jenkins (76).

On the girls side, the Roughettes had two individuals compete at the tournament. Kyndal Taggart shot a 63 for the Individual bronze medal, while Maddy Medrano finished with a 70.

“We are so proud of our golfers,” said Sundown Principal Miguel Salazar. “They competed very well for us! We managed to finish the nine holes before we were hit by the storm, but even better, we managed to bring the rain to Sundown with us!”
