Main Street hosts Chili Fest

Shop the Square Saturday Chili Fest will be held Saturday near the downtown Levelland square on Avenue G beginning at noon. The Chili Fest contestant entry fee is $20; this includes a booth space and a permit.

Main Street manager Tania Moody explained there will be live music and vendors at the event as well as the chili competition with prizes.

“What we’re asking them to do is provide little sample cups because we will have a People’s Choice Award and then we will have the judges award and the judges will judge a first-place team at $250, second place will win $100 and then there will be a downtown dollar gift card for People’s Choice Award winners Best Booth like we always do,” Moody said.

Jesse Day Duo, AcousTEX and Two of a Kind will be performing throughout the day.

“We’re going to have live entertainment all day. The Jesse Day Duo will be performing from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the AcousTexs will be performing from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Two of a Kind will be performing from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.,” Moody said.

Vendors that do not want to participate in the chili competition will be able to purchase a 10 by 10 space for $35 with setup beginning at 10 a.m. The Main Street Organization will not provide tables, tents or canopies.

“If you’re wanting to just be a vendor with a 10 by 10 space, it’s $35,” Moody said. “Canopies, tents and tables will all be provided by the participant. Participants need to make sure they can tie their canopies down in case it’s windy and there’s electricity available.”

Moody said vendors are able to sell food if they purchase a permit and pass the inspections for selling food products.

“If somebody wants to sell food, they’re going to have to go through the same permitting that they always do,” Moody said. “If somebody were to decide they wanted to sell something, they’re going to have to actually go through Dina’s office, and they would have to get a $75 permit to do so and they would have to pass all of those types of inspections for selling food products. We’re not encouraging the sale of chili or the sale of food unless they have their food handlers license, and they typically do this sort of thing.”

Chili competitors and vendors are encouraged to contact Carrie DeArmond to purchase a space at (806)-523-6777 or carrie@shopmyboutique.com
