Whitharral ISD held an All-Sports Camp, July 24-26, that focused on all sports the school has to offer.
The Whitharral coaching staff had a large number of students arrive to the camp to learn about all the different aspects of the different sports offered.
Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jeremy Holt and Head Basketball Coach Matt White were the main coaches along with high school student Rayden Potter to help the kids have fun and learn about all the different sports.
Day one of the camp was geared toward football and learning the fundamentals of the game. Offensive, defensive and special team drills were taught to all camp kids throughout the day with the coaches explaining why the drills were needed to become better players.
The kids learned basketball drills the second day at the camp and went over the basics along with some fundamentals.
The last day of the camp, the kids learned about track and what the different events entailed.
The staff also included a cheer camp for the girls in the gym as well to get kids of all ages involved and make sure they weren’t left out during the summer; making sure everyone had something to look forward to this summer.
Coach Holt explained that the students that showed up to the camp were extremely excited to learn from the coaches and all the kids had a blast playing and getting to know the sports more.
The coaches were on top of the kids’ health as well, making sure they stayed cool in this heat and staying hydrated this summer with frequent and long water breaks for the kids.
Coach Holt went 12-2 last year with the Panthers and has the utmost confidence in this group of kids that they are with these past few days.
The coach added that the group of kids were a lot of fun to be around and a good group of kids in general.
The kids are getting back into the groove of things as school is starting to get closer and closer for the many schools in the area. For coaches, this is an exciting time of year to see the faces of all the new kids they will get to teach and meet and eventually coach due to Whitharral being a small but passionate town.
The coaches and kids are very excited for these camps that are going on and very excited for what the future holds for the kids once they start getting active and back in a schedule.
