During Monday’s special meeting for the Levelland City Council, the group announced they would be offering the vacant city manager position to James Fisher.
Moving forward, the council offered the position to Fisher where he accepted the position. Fisher is coming to the City of Levelland from the town of Silverton, where he has been the Interim City Manager for the past year.
In his career, Fisher has more than 30-years of experience in city administration. Originally looking toward the metro area near Dallas, after discussing the position with a few individuals who knew about the area, Fisher felt comfortable making Levelland his home.
Starting out, Fisher is focused on filling the two empty position of Human Resources Director, and Chief Financial Officer for the City.
Additionally, Fisher explained he cannot ignore the infestation issue that has been plaguing the Kaufman Addition.
Researching the issue and being informed by city staff, he states that even though the city has no real authority in the situation, as it involves a private business, the city is in a place of leadership and has a responsibility to its citizens to find a solution.
Fisher also spoke about the current state of the city council and added they are doing a great job. Being in the manager position before, he explained that it is his duty to take care of his council and staff.
Moving forward in the position, he also highlighted the necessary growth Levelland needs to take. With Lubbock continuing to expand, Fisher wants to figure out a way for Levelland to benefit from that growth.
In regard to the growth of the city, he also explained that growth is good, but that does not have to take away from the charm that the city has created in its long-standing history.
Eager to begin working for the city, Fisher has given Silverton notice and is expected to begin his role in October.
