The Levelland Community Development Corporation met last Wednesday at the Levelland City Hall, to discuss their financials and budget for the upcoming year.
Glossing over the financials, the discussion was short as the board unanimously approved the item.
Currently with over $600,000 available, sales tax revenues increasing, and return on investments doing better than expected, the board was able to budget for several projects coming for the new year.
After discussion and suggestion of the projects that would be on the list for the coming year, the board unanimously approved $87,000 for a fishing dock and kayak launch to be placed at Brashear Lake similar to Lobo Lake.
Additionally, $45,000 would be used to assist in the building of the Farmer’s Market Park in downtown Levelland which is being led by Levelland Main Street. Once the park is completed, the park will fall under the care of the parks system for the city.
In regard to the Oxy Sports Complex, $16,000 would be used to build a lean-to for the maintenance shop to offer coverage for equipment and allow for more room in the area. Also, $5,000 would be used to replace the red bulbs in each score board at the complex with white LED’s which would offer longer life and be better lit for when in use.
A motion was made to approve these projects with the addition of $35,000 in seed money be used to research the next phase of the Oxy Sports Complex and the possibility of adding municipally owned basketball courts.
