Another Day Whith Dom !

The News-Press is excited for another football contest this year with it kicking off this week.

Not much is changing in the way it is conducted this year. However, to discover who the winner of the weekly competition will be, please look in our sports section for the summary story for each week.

I wish everyone the best of luck who takes part and hopefully you have the magic touch for picking teams this season.

Our Fall sports are currently underway and the News-Press wishes all our area teams the best of luck.

We’ve gotten our feet wet with high school football during week one and we are looking toward a productive season from our Hockley and Cochran teams.

In regard to cross country, those squads have started well into their season and those athletes have been putting in tremendous work.

Volleyball is another sport we have begun covering and both Levelland and Ropes have been trending in positive directions with their programs.

While we cannot get to every sporting event, we encourage the submission of photos. We work with some great individuals who help us with photos from the area schools the choose to cover. As long as the photos will translate well into print, we have no issue giving the photographer credit.

Aside from myself, we finally have a dedicated sports writer and photographer in Aalijah Soliz. You have had the pleasure of sampling his work throughout the Summer into this Fall.

That young man is a recent SPC graduate who is from Levelland and played for the Lobos during his tenure at LISD.

It has been fun working with him and teaching him the specifics with print journalism and how coverage of our area works.

Leaning toward the broadcast side of journalism, it’s been a process showing him the ropes, but he is eager to get to work.
