Members of the Thunder on the Plains Car Club recently presented the South Plains College Foundation with a check for $10,000 to endow the Thunder of the Plains Car Club Scholarship Endowment to assist SPC students. Shown on the front row, from left, are Dryl Bush, Samantha Goldie, director of development and alumni relations at SPC, student Nick Baltazar of Lamesa, Lindy Williams and Lydia Turner. On the second row, from left, are Clifton Turner, Barry Royal, R. H. Reaves and Jackie Williams. The scholarship will benefit students in the automotive and diesel technology programs. Before, the group would make donations through the college, however, it was soon decided to create an endowed scholarship the would specifically benefit second year students who are pursuing the automotive and diesel technology programs. The endowment will accrue interest from which scholarships will be drawn from. According to Goldie, the funds will need to stay for three years before scholarships can be withdrawn, which puts the first dispersal in the same year as Thunder on the Plains’ 20th anniversary. This endowment fund can be added. If anyone feels inclined to make a donation to the fund, Goldie added that individuals can contact the SPC Scholarship Office and will be taken care of.
