KTB recently announced its third cohort of Youth Texan Ambassadors, who will serve from September 2023 through May 2024. Among the 48 Ambassadors from across the state, one of Hockley County’s very own was chosen after a competitive selection process to serve in this prestigious role.
Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) ‘s Young Texan Ambassador program invites Texans ages 1525 to get involved in keeping their local Texas communities clean and beautiful. Ambassadors commit to a year of service and are required to host at least one litter cleanup, complete one community project, promote their efforts on social media, attend educational workshops hosted by KTB, and spread awareness about the importance of litter prevention.
Carson Wood is a 17-yearold and attends Whitharral ISD. He is thrilled to be a part of this program and is passionate about making a difference in the Hockley County community. He, plans to work with Hockley County 4-H, Whitharral ISD, Keep Levelland Beautiful, and Levelland Chamber of Commerce to help in the clean up of our community and Hockley County Carson is a Senior at Whitharral High School. He has been an active member of Hockley County 4 -H and Whitharral 4-H for over 10 years. He actively participates in Livestock showing and competing on district and State teams such as 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl, Soil Judging competing at Texas State 4-H Roundup each year. Carson has served as Vice President and many other officer positions on Hockley County 4-H Council and Whitharral 4-H while leading a Hockley County Vaccine Clinic and Highway Cleanup. Carson has received the highest 4-H honors – Gold Star and I Dare you. Carson is an active member of Whitharral FFA where he has served as Vice President of Whitharral FFA and reporter for the Littlefield District FFA while receiving his Lone Star Degree. He has successfully competed on District and Area teams such as Radio Broadcast Team; Chapter Conducting, and Dairy Judging while also staying busy with Ag. Mechanic projects. He actively has as served for 4 years on Whitharral Student Council.
