The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 820 original drilling permits in August 2023.
The total includes 710 to drill new oil or gas wells, 8 to re-enter plugged wellbores and 92 for recompletions of existing wellbores.
The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in August 2023 is: 162 oil, 55 gas, 560 oil and gas, 30 injection, and 13 other permits.
In August 2023, Commission staff processed 876 oil, 264 gas and 399 injection completions for new drills, re-entries and recompletions.
In the drilling overview of the report, there were 999 new wells drilled, 10 reentered, three field transfers, 131 recompletions, one reclass, 698 filed as other, six reclassed from gas to oil, 78 reclassed from oil to gas, six reclassed from injection to producing and eight reclassed from producing to injection.
Currently, there have been no new gas or oil field discoveries. For the current year, there have been three new gas field discoveries and eight new oil field discoveries.
In regard to the month of August’s W-2, oil completions, there have been 771 new drill completions, 10 completed reenters, 2 field transfer completions, 95 recompletions, one reclass, 544 classified as other, six reclassed from gas to oil completions and no reclassed from oil to gas.
For total W-2, oil completions, there have been six reclass injection to producing and eight reclass producing to injections for the month of August.
For G-1, gas completions for the month of August, there have been 228 classified as new drill, one field transfer, 36 recompletion, 154 as other and 78 as reclass oil to gas.
There have been 386 total underground injection completions for oil, W-2 and 13 total underground injection control completions for gas, G-1.
For dry holes and plugged for the month of August, there were 28 new drills and six reenters. There were a total of 1,030 total holes plugged for August.
There were 710 new drill original drilling permits, eight reenter, eight field transfer, 92 recompletion and two reclass original permits for August.
Additionally, there were 271 amended new drill drilling permits.
